Malaysia’s Petaling Jaya, a city that’s part of the Greater Kuala Lumpur area, has quietly entered the global dry‑slope map with the launch of a new indoor skiing and snowboarding facility inside a neighbourhood mall, a first for Malaysia and one of only a handful outside China in Southeast Asia.

Slope Master, located at Hextar World Empire City mall, features modern synthetic slope technology, and is designed to introduce skiing and snowboarding to beginners while offering year‑round access for local riders who have limited opportunities to train. The facility also features ski and snowboard simulators, giving learners further opportunities to get comfortable with the movements of snowsports before progressing to larger slopes.

The centre is open to anyone aged 5 and above, and equipment such as boots and protective gear is provided, so you don’t need to invest in your own gear before giving it a go.

Operators say the goal is accessibility: short sessions, walk‑in lessons, and equipment included, with a climate-controlled environment, making it a low‑barrier entry point for families and first‑timers. The surface allows controlled sliding at low speeds, ideal for teaching stance, edging, balance and basic turns.

Early visitors report that the slope is compact but functional, with a gentle gradient suited to absolute beginners. Instructors guide users through simple drills, from stepping and gliding to linked turns, while snowboarders can practise balance and edge control without the unpredictability of real snow. The venue also offers short “experience sessions” aimed at mall‑goers who want to try skiing for the first time.

Operators say the concept is designed to grow gradually, with plans to expand lesson programmes, introduce kids’ camps, and potentially add a second slope if demand continues.
