Proslope At London’s First Urban Pond Skim
London staged what’s believed to be the British capital’s first ever pond skimming event in October, with both pro and amateur skiers and riders taking up the challenge of sliding down onto a surface that combined Proslope dry slope surface and recycled real snow.
It was a great demonstration of the versatility of Proslope and just how well the high-performance ski surface can perform in almost any scenario.
The urban pond skim, a collaboration with Icebreaker and event experts Jibworx, was staged just outside Tower Bridge attracting over 100 skiers and snowboarders to Potters Fields Park, launching across 21,000 litres of water in front of a buzzing crowd.
Against the backdrop of one of the world’s most iconic structures, the event delivered on every front. Pro riders like Billy Morgan helped light the spark, while first-timers and even a ten-year-old competitor brought wide smiles and applause.
Spectators lined the riverbank, DJ sets and MCs kept energy high, and passers-by joined the fun — the atmosphere was as much an introduction to snowsports for the uninitiated as it was a spectacle.
