Oregon Mountain Academy Unveils Landmark Dry Slope Training Facility
Wy’East Mountain Academy in Oregon has launched America’s largest dry slope airbag training system, designed to advance skiing and snowboarding talent regardless of weather conditions.
The facility spans 80 feet in width and 200 feet in length, with jump configurations ranging from 35 to 55 feet. It was developed in partnership with Austrian company BangerBags.
Olympic legend Shaun White, who attended WMA’s High Cascade Snowboard Camp, was guest speaker at the event, which coincided with the opening session of Project Gold—a national talent development initiative run by U.S. Ski and Snowboard. White praised the academy’s programs for shaping him as both an athlete and a person.
The unveiling followed eight years of planning and two years of construction. More than 60 Olympic hopefuls participated in the first Project Gold session.
The new facility supports athletes training at High Cascade Snowboard Camp and Windells Freeski Camp, both hosted at WMA.
Olympic medalist and alumnus Nick Goepper highlighted the school’s influence on action sports, saying, “It’s cool to see Wy’East and Windells really embracing that.”
