More Ski Areas Adding Dry Slopes

Germany-based dry slope designer and manufacturer Skitrax World reports they are receiving new orders for slopes for the valley stations of ski resorts.

In most cases, a mat ski slope is to be installed next to an existing conveyor belt so that skiing operations can be maintained when there is little or no snow.

In addition Lifttrax mats for lift entrances, exits and transfer routes are now an integral part of over 700 lifts in world-renowned ski resorts.

Skitrax created a dry ski slope for Oberaudorf which opened on November 30 at the start of last winter, then ensured the slope at Oberaudorf’s Hocheck ski area was the first ski resort in Bavaria to open the slopes in Kinderland and stay open through another problematic winter for snow cover.

With the approx. 80m long and 10m wide mat ski slope from Skitrax World, the start of the season could be guaranteed. The approximately 10cm of natural snow that had fallen would not have been enough for the season opening.

Well organized by the “Top of the Mountain” ski school, the children from the local kindergarten were the first to open the ski season. They quickly built small jumps and the limited fresh snow on the plastic slope was quickly removed so that skiing could continue on the mats.

“The children loved it. Despite the bad weather, some press representatives were present and reported on the opening of the “100% snow-safe ski slope”, a Skitrax World spokesperson said.
